Man charged with 2019 murder of 66-year-old man in Galveston
Galveston police on Tuesday announced charges in the 2019 slaying of a 66-year-old man who was found beaten to death on a sidewalk, and said the suspect is also a person of interest inErnest Pierre, 42, was charged with murder Friday in the death of Melvin Walker nearly four years ago.
Advances in DNA technology since 2019 allowed Galveston police to obtain evidence that Pierre was the killer, and a warrant was issued Friday for his arrest, Sollenberger said. When asked what Pierre's motive was, Sollenberger said he killed Walker out of"meanness," and said the two were acquaintances. She did not provide further details.
Sollenberger also confirmed that Pierre was a person of interest in the killing of Donna Brown, a 79-year-old woman who was stabbed to death as she prepared to host an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in 2018. Sollenberger declined to elaborate further, saying"we don't want to tip our hand." Pierre has been remanded to the custody of the Galveston County Jail to await his trial for Walker's death.
