He was charged with making a threat to a court security guard to kill Judge Fiona Bagnall on August 25, 2022.
A 35-year old man who admitted issuing a threat to kill a judge will be sentenced for the offence next month. After confirming to a court clerk that he could see and hear the proceedings, he was then charged with making a threat to a court security guard to kill Judge Fiona Bagnall on August 25, 2022.When the charge was put to McCormick - whose addressed was given as Maghaberry - he replied “guilty”.
Although no details regarding the offence emerged today, a previous court hearing was told that he tried to get into the Laganside Court complex in Belfast on the date in question. After arriving at the premises, he was stopped at the entrance and when challenged by security staff, he asked “Where is Bagnall?”.
At the previous hearing, a PSNI officer told the court: “The defendant was informed that Judge Bagnall was not in the building, to which he replied, ‘I’m going to cut her f***ing throat, there’s going to be a bloodbath’.”Despite his initial denials that he issued the threat, McCormick admitted the single offence today and was told by Judge Philip Babington that he will be sentenced on June 22.
After being told by the Judge to co-operate with the Probation Board as they will be preparing a report ahead of sentencing, McCormick was remanded back into custody. For all the latest news, visit the Belfast Live homepage here and sign up to our daily newsletter here.
