Man, 22, arrested after crashing into other car on Vista highway, killing the driver [Breaking]
A 22-year-old suspected drunken driver was arrested after he allegedly slammed into the back of a car on state Route 78 on Saturday night, killing the other driver, authorities said.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m., the man was driving west on SR-78 near Melrose Drive in Vista when his Toyota Corolla collided with the car in front of him, according to California Highway Patrol. Both cars hit the wall on the right shoulder and the car he hit — a Kia Spectra — overturned, the CHP said. The Oceanside woman driving the Kia suffered fatal injuries and died before she could be taken to the hospital. Her name was not immediately released.The driver and his 18-year-old passenger were taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, CHP Officer Hunter Gerber said in a statement.
Gerber said that alcohol or drugs were a suspected factor in the crash. The driver, Nicholas Gordon of Vista, was arrested on felony charges on suspicion of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Gerber said anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the collision was asked to contact the CHP at 643-3400.
