Although testosterone levels fall as men age, the decline is steady at about 1% a year from around the age of 30 to 40 and this is unlikely to cause any problems in itself
October is Menopause Awareness Month, with World Menopause Awareness Day falling on October 18. The aim is to raise awareness of menopause, including the symptoms and treatments, as well as dispelling myths around it.
Is there such a thing as a "male menopause"? The NHS says that "male menopause" - sometimes called the andropause - is an "unhelpful term". It says the label is misleading because it suggests the symptoms are the result of a sudden drop in testosterone in middle age, similar to what occurs in the female menopause. This, the NHS says, is not true.
There are also physical causes of erectile dysfunction, such as smoking or heart problems, which may happen alongside any psychological cause. Psychological problems are typically brought on by work or relationship issues, money problems or worrying about ageing parents.
