Make teachers feel appreciated | Opinion
I’ve been a teacher in Texas for the last 12 years. In that time, I have taught in two different districts, at two drastically different schools, and educated approximately 500 students. Being a teacher has always been my dream, but now many teachers, myself included, feel unappreciated, undervalued and underpaid. So, what is a teacher to do?
The easy answer is to leave. I am a determined and hard-working woman, confident that I could find a job in the corporate world making six figures. That’s the problem, though. I don’t want to leave. I love what I do. If I leave the field of education, not only would I be giving up on something I genuinely love, I would be leaving behind countless future students before they ever had a chance to step foot in my classroom.
