The National Institutes of Health has launched an ambitious study to unravel the mysteries of lingering COVID-19 symptoms, which are sometimes referred to as long-haul COVID-19.
Early research suggests about 1 in 3 people will continue to have symptoms months after they get past the acute stage of their COVID-19 infections, meaning millions of Americans are still struggling to return to physical health after catching the virus.might be the lingering of this long tail of effect on people who are not able to return, back to their pre-infection state, and we need to do everything we can to get answers to that,” NIH Director Francis Collins, MD, said at a news briefing.
The endeavor will combine several studies that are already underway at long-haul COVID-19 clinics around the U.S., along with recruiting new participants, to create a group of around 30,000 people called RECOVER, for the Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery initiative.
