Major delays to a £250million development of 1,300 homes in Lisburn have been branded “ridiculous”
Planning approval for the multi-million pound Blaris area investment was granted by Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council in March 2021.
The development, which would also see a large scale commercial build as well as the construction of a £13 million link road to the M1, is due for a consultation update with LCCC and the Department for Infrastructure .In Council chambers this week, UUP Downshire East councillor Alex Swan said: “These two major applications have been called in by DfI in January of last year, some 44 weeks after LCCC approved the plans in 2021.
“It is now approximately 97 weeks since LCCC’s planning committee passed the application and they are still seeking a final determination from DfI. “I don’t dispute the right of the department to call the applications in for scrutiny and to make their determination, but surely with that right should come an obligation to do so in a timely fashion. Ninety seven weeks and counting is ridiculous.”
Head of LCCC planning and capital investment, Conor Hughes informed the chamber that a meeting will be held on Thursday for an update with the department. For all the latest news, visit the Belfast Live homepage here. To sign up to our FREE newsletters, see here.
