M6 lorry fire shuts northbound 'until 12pm' as drivers struck in 45 minute delays - live updates
The M6 on the border with Lancashire and Cumbria has been closed in a northbound direction as the emergency services tackle a heavy goods vehicle fire.
Cumbria Police says the busy motorway has been closed between junctions 35 and 36 by the blaze, with police and fire services on the scene. It is expected to remain shut until at least 12pm today . Officers from Cumbria Police and National Highways, along with firefighters from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, are dealing with the fire and recovery. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area if possible with 45 minute delays on approach to the incident.
Diversion routes have been set up with drivers advised to follow the 'solid triangle' diversion symbol on road signs.Follow the A6 through Milnthorpe and head towards KendalAt the Brettagh Holt roundabout follow the A590 towards Penrith M6National Highways has told motorists to expect delays and advised to allow extra journey time. It said: "Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.
