Kendrick Perkins ripped Luka Doncic for his lack of defense and leadership after the Mavericks’ overtime loss against the Hawks on Sunday.
“The pouting, the hanging of the head, going to the media… You talk about giving up 132.Perkins said although Doncic isn’t that athletic on defense, “he could at least give effort” and play with passion.fault’ or … [head coach Jason Kidd] doesn’t know what he’s doing.
“Those things matter, and although he’s going to go out there and he’s going to give you 30, eight, and nine on a consistent basis, we get fooled by that.”“There [are] two ends of the floor and I think this is a growing process for Luka as far as being a leader and learning how to be the franchise guy,” Perkins said.
Doncic finished with 22 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in Sunday’s loss to Atlanta — Dallas’ third-straight defeat.
