Looking Back to See Forward: The legacy of Windrush by DredieMann
The free festival brings together leading lights from across the SHAPE disciplines and big names from the cultural sphere.
Acknowledging the Windrush celebrations taking place in June, as part of the festival, a special panel event, ‘’, will see discussions around the significance of this anniversary, with reflection upon how Windrush has been understood, and posit ways of sharing this history for future generations. Lisa Anderson, Managing Director of Black Cultural Archives in Brixton, whose mission is to collect, preserve and celebrate the histories of people of African and Caribbean descent in the UK, will be the Chair on the panel.Dr.
The project has two key aims: first, to explore the evolution of language used to report on Black and Black-British migration and experience in the UK from 1945 to the mid-1990s; second, to invite different generations of the public from African and Caribbean backgrounds to speak back to the BBC’s reporting.He’s also edited the ground-breaking collection , which collates some of the best and most significant Black British writing of the last 75 years.
The panel discussion is part of a day-long programme of pop-up talks, performances, film screenings, panel discussions and workshops in the building and adjoining garden.Further information about the Summer Showcase can be found here:
