House Appropriations Committee Chair Kay Granger, R-Texas, announced Wednesday that she will not seek reelection after nearly 30 years in the House, The Hill reported.

Granger, former mayor of Fort Worth, Texas, was first elected to the House in 1997. She was the first woman to become mayor of Fort Worth and to represent Texas in the House. She will leave office on Jan. 3, 2025, exactly 28 years after she was sworn in. "As I announce my decision to not seek re-election, I am encouraged by the next generation of leaders in my district," the congresswoman said in a statement. "It's time for the next generation to step up and take the mantle and be a strong and fierce representative for the people.

Granger, as chair of the House Appropriations Committee, will continue to serve as the top appropriator as the House looks to fund the government before the Nov. 17 deadline to avert a shutdown.
