Vince Zerante, a popular teacher who taught science classes at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights for 44 years, has died. He was 70.
Vince Zerante, a popular teacher who taught science classes at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights for 44 years, died Nov. 14, 2022.
“He loved his students,” Zerante’s wife said. “There were many days he’d go in early and he’d come home late, and if students needed help they just needed to ask him and he would make arrangements to tutor them both before and after school.” Early in his career, Zerante became good friends with a fellow teacher, Tom Burg, who started at Marian around the same time. The two also enjoyed spending time on the golf course outside of school.
“He was just an extraordinary teacher,” Marazas said. “When he wasn’t teaching, he was frequently tutoring.”Zerante worked for 17 years with a fellow science teacher, Barb Murzyn, whom he hired in 1991. Murzyn, who took over as the science department chair from Zerante, remains a Marian Catholic science teacher and she recalled the two having classrooms next to one another.
