Hidalgo said some mistakes were due to new rules under SB1, the voting law the Legislature passed last year, while others were simply unforced errors made by Longoria and her staff. Republican Party Chairwoman Cindy Siegel already has called for Longoria to be sacked; Democratic Party Chairman Odus Evbagharu wants a thorough investigation of what went wrong during the election. County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth declined to comment and Tax Assessor-Collector Ann Harris Bennett did not respond to a request for comment.
