LOS ANGELES — Coroner’s officials Saturday released the name of a 32-year-old man, allegedly armed with a handgun, who was fatally shot by police following a vehicle chase to downtown Los Angeles.
The shooting occurred at around 12:50 a.m. Friday near a freeway overpass in the area of 16th Street and Maple Avenue, just north of the Santa Monica Freeway, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman told City News Service.According to the police, officers were patrolling near Manchester Avenue and Hoover Street when they saw a man with a handgun.
The white Mercedes entered the northbound Harbor Freeway and then went onto the eastbound 10 Freeway, exiting on Maple Avenue. “The suspect was stuck by gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased,” police continued.
