Condolences came in from fans, colleagues, and more after news of Kobe Bryant's death was reported on Jan. 26. A makeshift memorial appeared at the Staples Center not long after the announcement and at tonight's Grammy Awards, Lizzo offered viewers the opportunity to reflect on the tragedy of Bryant's passing by dedicating the night to the late basketball star during her opening performance.
"Tonight is for Kobe," she said as both of his retired jerseys, No. 8 and No. 24, were illuminated above her.Alicia Keys also had a few words as she presented, saying, "Here we are together, on music's biggest night, celebrating the artists that do it best. But, to be honest, we are all feeling crazy sadness. Because earlier today, Los Angeles, America, and the whole wide world lost a hero. We're literally standing here heartbroken in the house that Kobe Bryant built.
