In 2013 it was first suggested bus lanes should go, a decade later they could now come back
They say a week is a long time in politics. If that’s true, it makes you wonder how long nine years really is.
The scheme, in partnership with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, would install green routes along the 10A Liverpool to St Helens, the 86 from Liverpool to Speke and John Lennon Airport, the 53 service from Liverpool to Bootle and Crosby, the 79 route from Liverpool to Halewood and Widnes, as well as the 20/21 from Liverpool to Kirkby, Tower Hill.
As a result, St John’s Lane/Old Haymarket, Strand Street north and southbound, and Ranelagh Street at Great Charlotte Street became the last active bus lanes in the city. The move formed part of what was the third transport plan back in 2015 as then-Mayor Anderson wanted to ensure “travelling through the city is as quick as possible for all road users.”
