Real Madrid pulled a goal back via a superb strike from Vinicius Junior after 21 minutes. The forward equalised before half-time as Alisson’s clearance ricocheted off him and into the net. The Spanish giants turned on the style after the break and they also profited from some poor defending from Liverpool. Eder Militao headed home Real Madrid’s third before Karim Benzema’s brace surely took the tie away from Liverpool.
This is the first time Liverpool have conceded five goals in a game at Anfield in 70 years and they have it all to do heading into the second leg in three weeks’ time.
