Olivia Rodrigo won best new artist at the 64th Grammy Awards, the second Grammy of the night for the former Disney star. Rodrigo’s “Sour” is also up for album of the year.
You could pretty much guess that Lil Nas X wasn’t going to waste anyone’s time or attention on the Grammy stage.
His medley of “Dead Right Now,” “Montero ” and “Industry Baby” was a charming showcase of his latest viral hits. The 22-year-old artist started in a fine black robe backed up by a marching band of men dressed in what can be best described as monk garb — or possibly a squad of Deaths from “The Seventh Seal.”
There was a brief interlude of social media posts and news clips showing the conservative backlash to his music video for “Montero” before he launched into the song, fittingly stripping off much of his clothes in the process. He then got back into a sequined gown and was joined by rapper Jack Harlow to close out his performance.
