A camera on Chardon Square showed the Geauga County city was getting significant snow early Friday morning as a winter storm moved through Northeast Ohio.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Chardon was living up to its name as the “heart of the snow belt” early Friday morning.provided by Geauga TV showed the Geauga County city was getting hit by an intense squall at about 3:15 a.m. and that roads were quickly getting a significant coating.heavy snow was falling in several areas south and east of Cleveland, including in Cuyahoga Heights, Shaker Heights, Mayfield Heights and Solon.
ODOT says it will have 285 plows on the roads in Northeast Ohio to combat the winter storm, although Thursday’s rain prevented pre-treating surfaces. Officials warn that roads could be snow-covered and slippery for the morning commute. Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina and Summit counties currently are under a winter weather advisory that is expected to remain in place until 1 a.m. Saturday. As much as 9 inches of snow could fall in parts of the snow belt.
Highs today will top out at about 32 degrees, but winds will be steady around 17 mph and gusts could reach 30 mph, so it might feel like temps are in the teens. Overnight lows will be in the mid-20s and winds still will be around 15-17 mph. Forecasts are calling for skies to clear by Saturday afternoon and remain sunny through Sunday, with highs eventually reaching the upper 30s.
