Not even Linkedin is safe from layoffs. The SF-based networking platform is letting go of 700 employees in a round of layoffs.
LinkedIn is cutting more than 700 jobs as the professional social network joined other major tech companies in reducing headcount to adjust to slower growth.
The Sunnyvale company announced Monday that it was laying off 716 employees, mostly in its global business organization and its operations in China, CEO Ryan Roslansky said in a statement. LinkedIn plans to phase out InCareer, it's local job apps in China, by August 2023. "While we’re making meaningful progress creating economic opportunities for our members and customers and experiencing record engagement on the platform, we’re also seeing shifts in customer behavior and slower revenue growth," Roslansky said.
The announcement comes on the heels of LinkedIn’s 20th anniversary. “Over the years we've had to make hard decisions to ensure we were setting the company up to deliver on our vision, and I'm sharing one of those decisions today,” he said. LinkedIn joins a slew of other tech companies that have laid off employees since the beginning of 2023, including Google, Meta, Salesforce and Twitter. As of Tuesday, there have been 192,254 layoffs across 660 companies so far this year, according to layoffs.fyi. About 147,000 of those layoffs were in the San Francisco Bay Area.
