Will ticket office closures modernise the railway, or make it harder for vulnerable people to access it?
Plans to “modernise” the railway network by closing hundreds of ticket offices across the country – including several in Lincolnshire – must ensure the protection of jobs in the sector, a local MP has stated.
Boston & Skegness MP Matt Warman, whose constituency would lose two ticket offices, warned the plans shouldn’t be “simply an excuse to close ticket offices and cut staff numbers.” “I will be engaging with EMR at a local level to understand more fully the detail of their plans for Boston and Skegness and how these proposals will deliver what local residents using our railways need.”
It also denies that it will be harder for disabled or elderly people to access train services, saying it is simply “modernising” the network. The Azuma train at Lincoln train station.
