I find it incredible that Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is blaming House Speaker Dade Phelan and House Democrats for the failure to pass tax legislation. Patrick accuses Phelan of allowing Democrats to “abuse” points of order to kill conservative legislation. Then he goes one step further and says the House should “adjust its procedural rules, as the Senate did, to give more power to the GOP majority.
We trusted the Republicans to select who would represent us and protect our democracy. Instead, we got Paxton and former President Donald Trump, men only interested in their thirst for power and money. The integrity of Republicans will be tested again, this time with Paxton. The party may survive the officials they elect, but our democracy may not.
On Memorial Day we celebrated and honored the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for this country. They certainly deserved better, and so do the rest of us.Re: “Texas Children’s to discontinue trans care,” Metro, May 28: Assigned sex at birth? Articles such as this one allude to an epidemic of wrong gender assignments that need correction. We now have an increase in cases of doctors and hospitals performing these changes on children/minors.
