NEW YORK - Le maire de New York Bill de Blasio a annoncé samedi que les écoles publiques de la ville resteraient fermées jusqu’à la fin de l’année scolaire à l’heure où l’épidémie de coronavirus frappe de plein fouet la première métropole américaine. “Vous dire qu’on ne pourra pas rouvrir nos écoles pour le reste de l’année scolaire est douloureux mais je peux aussi vous dire que c’est la bonne chose à faire”, a déclaré l’édile démocrate lors d’une conférence de presse.
Les écoles publiques new-yorkaises étaient fermées depuis le 16 mars et devaient initialement rouvrir “au plus tôt” le 20 avril mais le maire de New York n’avait pas exclu à l’époque le fait qu’elles puissent rester fermées jusqu’à la fin de l’année scolaire.
