Leeds United are linked with the Japanese international who has made a name for himself in Germany
Leeds United are reportedly in negotiations with Fortuna Dusseldorf in an effort to strike a deal to land Japanese midfielder Ao Tanaka. The German press are convinced Tanaka could be on his way out of the Bundesliga 2 club and while top-flight side Stuttgart have already shown an interest, it looks Like Leeds' far superior bid could win the day.
Who is Ao Tanaka? The 24-year-old hails from the Japanese city of Kawasaki and made his first introduction in professional football at his local side Kawasaki Frontale. A J1 League title winner at the age of 20, he enjoyed a breakout season in his homeland in 2019, becoming the only Kawasaki Frontale player to ever win the J League rookie of the year award as his side won the league again.
Plays like Bellingham In Germany the Japanese midfielder has been compared to England's former Bundesliga, now Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham. A box-to-box midfielder who enjoys sitting in front of the defence to stifle any attacks and clean up any loose possession, he enjoys driving forward with the ball and getting at defences, popping up in the box to score some crucial goals. A leader of the Dusseldorf team, he is seen as a driving force on the field.
