Jamie Shackleton has been Leeds United's unsung hero this season so far in the Championship
It’s fair to say Jamie Shackleton’s future looked uncertain as he returned to Thorp Arch for the first day of Leeds United’s pre-season campaign in July. The academy graduate was deemed to be surplus to requirements prior to his loan move to Millwall last year and after an up and down spell in south London, it seemed unlikely that status would change.
The 23-year-old has not only made the most of the fresh start afforded to him by Farke, he’s been one of Leeds’ best and most consistent in recent weeks to firmly re-establish himself within the Elland Road picture. Even after a successful pre-season campaign, it was unclear what role Shackleton would have to play under Farke.
And, he displayed those characteristics and more in what were arguably man of the match winning displays against both Salford City and Sheffield Wednesday, playing at right-back in the cup before returning to the left for the Yorkshire derby. That versatility has been one of Farke’s biggest assets this season so far, with the German being safe in the knowledge that Shackleton will happily fill in across the field and to good effect.
