Rusty Murdaugh, who led the Alabama shipbuilder through a transition into steel construction, has resigned, company says.

The brief statement issued Wednesday by Austal USA praised Murdaugh for leading the company through “significant changes that ushered in a period of unprecedented growth.”

California state Senate leader Toni Atkins says she will step down from leadership postThe leader of the California Senate says she will step down from her leadership post. Toni Atkins was the first woman and the first openly gay person to lead the California Senate. State Sen. Mike McGuire will replace her. Atkins said the transition will happen some time next year.
