Muir went 4:14.8 to break Jenny Simpson's meet record and Wightman continued his terrific year with a 3:49.6.
The victory caps a standout year for the 29-year-old, who captured the bronze medal in the 1,500 meters at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene before winning gold in the event at both the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships.
“This was the last race of my season and it was hard, but I kept thinking to myself 200, then 100 meters to go to get to the line,” Muir said. “I did all I could to leave it all out there.” Wightman made it two-for-two for the United Kingdom at the 5th Avenue Mile in defending his title in 3:49.6 over countryman Jake Heyward and American Sam Prakel .
