from low-cost housing to public parkland is looming closer for the badly aging Euclid Beach Mobile Home Community located between Lake Shore Boulevard and Lake Erie in the city’s North Collinwood neighborhood., which bought the 28.5-acre property in late 2021 from a Texas developer for $5.8 million, on Thursday announced what it called a recommendation that the property should be added to adjacent disjointed sections of the Cleveland Metroparks Euclid Creek Reservation.
Other important projects in the area, located in Cleveland’s northeast corner, include plans by Cuyahoga County to connect the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District’s nearby property in Beulah Park with Euclid Beach Park, located to the east. Residents at Collinwood Recreation Center in Cleveland heard a presentation about the future of the Euclid Beach Mobile Home Community Thursday, February 9, 2023.The conservancy’s announcement followed a year in which it consulted with hundreds of residents in and around the mobile home community through canvassing, online surveys, pop-up events, focus groups, and six larger meetings.
“There are a lot of people who can’t afford to move out of here,’’ he said. “They’re like in tears every time we have these meetings.’’ The land conservancy’s planning process was the sixth in 75 years to recommend consolidating parkland around the mouth of Euclid Creek at Lake Erie, Zone said. The failure to act on those plans exemplified what he called “paralysis by over-analysis.”
In a written comment, Metroparks CEO Brian M. Zimmerman said his agency “is excited about its role in partnering and investing in East Side lakefront opportunities, including continuing to establish Euclid Beach, Villa Angela, and Wildwood Parks as a regionally significant destination for public lakefront access, recreation, and community connections. We look forward to working with the community on the next steps relative to the recommendations of the proposed Euclid Beach Neighborhood Plan.
