PC Darren Coathup, from Chorley, later asked the woman to take an STI test and posted money through her letterbox for it after he tested positive for Chlamydia
As he left her address he lifted up his hand to show her he was married, Ms Lavin said, but he said he would text her later. Several months later, in September 2020, he texted her ‘out of the blue’ from his work mobile after the woman lodged a new complaint that the same ex-partner had been posting semi-nude pictures of her on a porn website.
He gave her his personal phone number and following the encounter the pair exchanged ‘intimate’ pictures and videos with Coathup sending her one of him naked, the court heard. By February 2021, the texting ‘fizzled out’ Ms Lavin said. However, the woman told investigators she ‘felt weird’ and ‘was confused by it all.’
Coathup arrived with a colleague but told him he could go and he would take her statement, the court was told. He advised her to install a security camera and over the subsequent days messaged her from his work mobile offering to drop one off. This was a personal camera as the police didn't issue them and he dropped it off in his personal vehicle several days later, Ms Lavin said. The pair began messaging every day with Coathup using both his work and personal mobile.
