Readers' memories of Lancashire's lost nightclub that boasted the 'best nights ever'
A lost Lancashire nightclub that boasted the "best nights ever" saw everything from go-go dancers to house music lovers in its lifetime.
"Everything was always good but it wasn’t a big enough stage because I did acrobats so it was a bit difficult. When you walked in the bar was on the right. Sue Gardner wrote: "One of the best night clubs back in the day for house music." Jimmy 'jangled' Lonsdale wrote: " Had some mental nights there in late 80s acid house/rave scene been some top weekenders there with mental djs ..used to have a orange and white mark 2 Vw camper van then used to drive round Burnley after with flashing light on roof Friday night hardcore night oh yes.
Allison Green commented: "Best club loved it sooooo much." Mick Dyster said: "Had some great nights down the Angels loved it in there." "I went totally underground with it and started to play house music and nothing else. I put an advert in the paper for help to paint the club black and I got a guy I knew and said I want a tonne of speakers in this club, I want them everywhere.
"By 9pm a thousand people queued right up the street around the bend and you you couldn't see how long it went. By 10pm, there were 1500 people in the building and the memories I have are people running in to get onto the dancefloor." In the early 1990s, a few famous faces also popped into Angels. Paul said: "I was a graphic designer and I got to design the sleeves for PWL, Pete Waterman's record label. I got to know Pete Waterman really well because he was a northern soul fanatic and he came to Angels one night.
