A new set of mobile speed cameras will be in place across Lancashire in next month with the aim of improving road safety in the county.
Cameras in our region are operated by the Lancashire Road Safety Partnership and drivers who are speeding or not wearing a seat belt could be at risk of getting a fine or points on their licence. From Friday , mobile speed cameras will be out at 40 locations including in Blackpool, Burnley, Rawtenstall, Haslingden, Fleetwood, Morecambe, Thornton, Ormskirk, Coppull, Darwen and St Annes.
So it could be a good idea to keep a close eye on your speedometer when you are driving along these streets. However, police have warned people they can take action at any location within the Lancashire Constabulary areaThe LRSP said they aim to 'improve driver behaviour by helping motorists drive at an appropriate and safe speed within designated limits'. They will operate their safety camera enforcement vehicles across Lancashire seven days a week.
A spokesperson said: "Our cameras use highly accurate laser technology to detect speeding motorists, but they are also used to identify other offences, including drivers not in proper control or not wearing a seat belt. All our mobile sites are risk assessed for safety and we vary how often we attend different locations.
"Sites are chosen based on casualty data, known speeding concerns, or where a report has been made directly by a member of the public concerned about speeding issues in their area, along with any location that has a fixed roadside camera."
