The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has issued new data on local authority approaches to littering
The government has named and shamed local councils that failed to issue a single fine for fly-tipping last year - and it includes one in Lancashire.
The league table shows that Pendle handed out the most fines to fly-tippers in our area, a total of 1,790, followed by Rossendale , and then Blackburn with Darwen . But compared to the number of incidents of fly-tipping in each part of the country, Thurrock Council in Essex was most likely to crack down on culprits with a fine. For every incident of fly-tipping, the equivalent of 2.22 FPNs were handed out by Thurrock. Basildon, also in Essex, was next , and then Brighton and Hove in Sussex .
