Research shows the force had one suspected breach every 76 minutes

Lancashire Constabulary is reportedly one of the worst forces in England for suspected data breaches or security incidents.

READ MORE: Nicola Bulley search: Missing dogwalker's phone found on bench by river as police appeal for witnesses Elsewhere, Dorset Police disclosed 145 occasions where paperwork being lost or stolen, Devon and Cornwall Police recorded 163 incidents of ID or warrant cards going missing, while Derbyshire Constabulary divulged they sent 79 emails to the wrong people.

"So, for example, if an item of police equipment is lost it would be recorded as a security incident but because we can disable devices when they are reported lost or stolen no-one would be able to access any data. Most of the incidents were people seeking to send information to personal or non-corporate email addresses, as individuals sought to work around the impact of covid.

“Our data breach team is already dealing with a significant number of cases against various police constabularies in England and Wales as a result of their repeated failures to adhere to the GDPR and data protection legislation. Due to the vast amounts of sensitive information the police process, many cases we deal with are severe and often lead to significant distress for our clients.
