Max Jones passed away just nine days after his 19th birthday.

Tributes have been paid to an East Kilbride teenager who tragically lost his battle with a rare brain cancer that also claimed the lives of his mum and gran.

Max's aunt and guardian Louise Cooper praised his bravery and strength that saw him "smile through everything".She told Lanarkshire Live: "Max battled long and hard for five-and-a-half months. He slowly lost the ability to walk and regularly suffered excruciating pain. "The care that he received was fabulous from day one, not just for Max but for his incredible group of friends who visited daily. Our family were adopted into the Kilbryde Hospice family as the staff checked on us daily to ensure that we were coping okay too.

He had started getting headaches and pains in his legs and the pain became so unbearable he went to Hairmyres Hospital where a CT and MRI scan discovered the “aggressive” stage 4 tumour on his brain. Max’s gran Margaret O’Kane, from Wishaw, died from glioblastoma in October 2008, aged 66, and his mum Angie Jones, from East Kilbride, died from the disease just 14 months later, aged 36.

And in a heartwarming show of unity last month, Max’s workmates at Pacini’s chip shop in East Kilbride hosted a charity fundraiser for the hospice as a thank you for the excellent care being given to their friend which raised an incredible £13,000.
