Updated October 01, 2023 3:13 PMAfter a few days of speculation, the Portland Trailblazers finally shipped veteran guard Jrue Holiday out after acquiring him in the Damian Lillard trade. He now heads to the Lakers longest rival, the Boston Celtics. There had been talk about Portland moving him to a contender, and he now lands in Boston., but they didn't have the same level of assets as Boston.
Portland received an excellent haul from the Celtics for Holiday, and it did deplete the Celtics depth a little bit. LA could never match this, but if Laker fans can take anything positive from this deal, it's that Boston gave up good assets to get Holiday, including an unprotected pick down the line.
Holiday was a big part of the Milwaukee Bucks title run in 2021, but now he goes directly to the Bucks biggest competitor in the Eastern Conference. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out throughout the year, and thankfully Holiday didn't end up out Western Conference. The Lakers can now move on from this, and focus strictly on the new season ahead. They have a very solid roster from top to bottom, and Holiday would have been a luxury, not a need for them.
They have built a title-contending roster this summer, and they should be one of the best teams In the league. And if we are lucky, maybe LA will meet up with Holiday and Boston in the NBA Finals this season, to break the tie for the most titles in NBA history.
