Lake Creek takes key District 21-5A volleyball win over rival Montgomery
Montgomery fans feign sleeping during Lake Creek player introductions before a high school volleyball match, Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022, in Montgomery, TX.MONTGOMERY — The consensus is District 21-5A will be a lot more challenging than the eight-team league Lake Creek and Montgomery competed in last year. With the rivals meeting Tuesday at Lake Creek, neither team was interested in falling farther into that hole.
Having gone unbeaten in district play last year for the program’s first district title, losing to College Station four nights earlier wasn’t something the Lions were accustomed to. With that said, the Cougars are a quality program having reached the regional final last year. Montgomery, meanwhile, was swept by a state-ranked Bryan Rudder squad that has improved a lot since last year. Montgomery is on the hunt for its third straight playoff appearance.
