Lake County’s employees will be getting a 4% pay hike in 2024, though they will not notice the impact on their paychecks right away.
The County Council Tuesday approved a balanced 2024 budget of around $240 million on second reading, including the 4% pay raise for employees. The raise is effective Jan. 1 and will cost the county about $4 million, according to officials. In balancing the budget, the council also approved using the planned surplus for 2023 and the surplus from 2022 to close about a $10 million budget gap created by the pay raise and anticipated increase in insurance costs.
The budget does not take into account what forensic accountants Baker Tilley will report on their investigation into the breakdown of the county’s auditing process after the transition to new Oracle accounting software. The company is expected to provide its report and a plan to remediate any problems it uncovered to officials later Tuesday. The cost of any remediation is expected to be at least seven figures.
