, revealing that she was once told if she wanted to secure a major movie role, she shouldn't flaunt it in public., Stewart — who has dated men and women in the past but chooses not to label her sexuality — said that she had been told to"do [herself] a favour" and keep her relationship away from the public eye for fear it could affect her career.
But Stewart admitted that she hasn't always been so open and that she used to be"informed by an old school mentality" that made her keep her personal life private.She explained:"You want to preserve your career and your success and your productivity, and there are people in the world who don't like you, and they don't like that you date girls."
But Stewart had a change of perspective when she realised that by trying to protect her private life, she was actually hindering it."I just wanted to enjoy my life," Stewart said."That took precedence over protecting my life, because in protecting it, I was ruining it. Like what, you can't go outside with who you're with? You can’t talk about it in an interview?"
"I just think we're all kind of getting to a place where we're all becoming incredibly ambiguous," Stewart concluded."It's this really gorgeous thing."
