Kris Wu, the former face of a dozen brands including Louis Vuitton, Porsche and Bulgari, has been formally arrested.
LONDON — After being detained by police in Beijing on suspicion of rape, Chinese-Canadian singer, actor Kris Wu, the former face of a dozen brands including Louis Vuitton, Porsche and Bulgari, was formally arrested, the prosecutor’s office of the Beijing district of Chaoyang Monday said in a statement.
In July, several brands cut ties with Wu as controversial claims surrounding his personal life emerged on Chinese social media over the weekend. A young woman who said she’d dated the pop star accused him of targeting young and sometimes underage females for sex, allegations Wu denied.
She shared screenshots of alleged conversations between Wu and underage girls on Weibo and claimed that she has struggled with mental health, and even had suicidal thoughts due to his infidelity and cyberbullying from his fans. However, Du soon revealed that she didn’t receive a court summons. Instead, she shared that Wu’s team reached out to her and proposed to settle the accusations with money. She posted a chat history of her negotiating the details of the settlement plan with Wu’s representative and a copy of the contract that his team offered her to sign, which she claimed to be a trap.
