Russell Knox, Rasmus Hojgaard shine on first day of Valero Texas Open
Knox notched his seventh birdie of the round on the 15th hole, knocking a 6-iron 194 yards onto the fringe of the green to set up a shot from about 17 feet.Knox has made the cut in 11 of his 15 starts this season and finished tied for sixth at The Players Championship three weeks ago — his best placement at the event and better than his top finish in any major.
Rasmus Hojgaard, a 21-year-old from Denmark making his 10th PGA Tour start, finished the day one shot behind Knox at 6-under. Hojgaard’s day was highlighted by an eagle on 18, as he sent a second-shot 3-wood about 270 yards on to the green and converted the putt from about 39 feet. Hojgaard has already secured three victories on the European Tour in his career, becoming the third-youngest winner in tour history at 18 years old during his fifth start in December 2019.
