Knicks rookie R.J. Barrett is one of five Canadians drafted last month on Canada's World Cup roster. Several veterans, including Jamal Murray, Nik Stauskas and Tristan Thompson, are in the mix but Andrew Wiggins is not.
Fresh off becoming the first player in NBA Summer League history to average 15+ points, 8+ rebounds and 4+ assists, Knicks rookie R.J. Barrett on Tuesday was among 29 Canadian athletes invited to attend the National Team training camp ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.and five of them are on the roster: Barrett, Nickeil Alexander-Walker , Brandon Clarke , Mfiondu Kabengele and Marial Shayok .
"Canadian basketball is really on the rise," Barrett said the night of the Draft, when he was chosen No. 3 overal by the Knicks."We have probably four of us going in the first round. So it's just amazing. Canada basketball is on the rise. We're going to have to cut some NBA players from the team this summer. But it's great.
