Charles III is considering rewriting the law so that counsellors of state are all working members of the Royal Family, it has been claimed.
Under the 1937 Regency Act, they include the spouse of a monarch and the next four people in line to the throne aged over 21. Should he amend the law, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew and Princess Beatrice, none of whom are working royals, would no longer be eligible for the role. This was abolished by a new law, the Succession to the Crown Act 2013, which gave women equal rights to men in the line of succession.
