“It was really scary to have to go through that,” says Kim, who is now on medication (via toofab)
"For the name, Kimono, for me, when I looked at the name and the team presented that name, I thought, 'Oh, my gosh, how cute, my name,'" Kim began. "I'm so inspired by the Japanese culture, I didn't understand that it would have been offensive. We ran it by retailers, we ran it by a bunch of people that we respected. Everyone seemed to really like the name."
She added, "As soon as it came out, there was so much backlash, and I didn't respond immediately. I waited a good day to see how I felt about it and I called a lot of my friends and I called a lot of people to get advice from it and I really understood." "I would never want to intentionally disrespect a culture and hurt my brand and have that association and I understood," she concluded. "So it wasn't even a thought, I changed the name."
