The final killer responsible for the death innocent student Aya Hachem was jailed today - and he didn't take it well
A Manchester drug dealer who called upon his gangland enforcers to carry out a contract killing - resulting in the death of innocent student Aya Hachem - claimed he was the victim of a miscarriage of justice as he was sentenced to life.
Hussain, a regular associate of Otway's, called on him to help organise the killing of Mr Khan. But the plan went wrong, and Aya, an innocent bystander, was gunned down. The shots, fired by Zamir Raja, missed Mr Khan, the intended target, but the second bullet caught law student Aya, passing through her body before becoming embedded in a telegraph pole. Aya fell to the ground as members of the public rushed to her help, but she died almost instantly.
Mr Justice Jacobs said he was sure that Ennis and Raja worked as enforcers for Otway and was well aware that the drive-by shooting was being planned. Otway denied any involvement in the sourcing of a firearm from Liverpool, claiming his only link to the city was that his daughter attended university in the city.
The court heard the murder plot required people with no links to Blackburn to orchestrate the plan. Otway was the link between the Lancashire plan and the Manchester enforcers, the court heard.
