Man United are always looking to send some of their young players out on loan - and now they might have the perfect environment to help them flourish.
After four seasons languishing in the depths of League One, Ipswich Town would have been forgiven for taking things slowly upon their return to the Championship.
The Northern Irishman, who spent five years working at Old Trafford, is widely considered as one of the most exciting and promising coaches in English football. And at the age of just 37, it is easy to understand why. In a bid to improve their defensive standards, McKenna turned to his former club in the latter stages of the summer transfer window, borrowing United defender Brandon Williams on loan for the season. He, perhaps surprisingly, became the first United player to join Ipswich since McKenna took charge - and McKenna is already helping him increase his game time.
Though Williams is older than both Hutchinson and Scarlett, there is nothing to say that United will not be prepared to take a leaf out of the London clubs' books and send some of their own young talent to Portman Road. McKenna still has close connections with United, and it would be naive of the Reds to ignore the possibility of sending some of their most exciting talent, who are ready to make the step-up to first-team football, to Suffolk.
"It was good for the boys to come down here from their point of view and it was good for us to have them competing and training in our group. I think it's a really important relationship for us to keep developing."
