Khia Whitehead trial: Passing nurse rushed to help 15-year-old after he was hit by 'speeding' police car on 999 call out, jury told
A passing nurse rushed to help a teenage boy hit by a 'speeding' police car during an emergency call out, a court has heard. A statement from Susan Southward was read today during the trial of Greater Manchester Police constable Sarah De Meulemeester.
Ms Southward detailed the aftermath of the incident on December 26, 2020. She said she saw Khia lying injured and rushed to help. She said adrenaline kicked in and, on examination, she found a faint pulse. She said a police officer took over, before Khia 'started breathing and his eyes opened'. She added: "His breathing was still laboured and we got him into the recovery position."
A statement was also read to the jury from Dr Sachin Watve, who said Khia underwent numerous procedures. In October 2021, he was admitted to Steps Rehabilitation Centre in a 'persistent negative state'.
