This year’s honorees were actor and filmmaker George Clooney, contemporary Christian pop singer-songwriter Amy Grant, singer of soul, gospel, R&B and pop Gladys Knight, Cuban-born American composer, conductor and educator Tania León, and Irish rock band U2, comprised of band members Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr.
In a black hat and a glove, Paul Pelosi waved as the audience gave him a standing ovation as he stood next to his wife. It was one of his first public appearances since he was severely injured in October, when an intruder broke into the Pelosis’ San Francisco home, looking to do harm to the House Speaker, according to a police report.
Eddie Vedder sang “Elevation” and “One Love” as part of the tribute to U2, and the segment finished with Brandi Carlisle and other singers with Walk On.
