Roy Keane defends ‘human’ Cristiano Ronaldo after star sends message before Chelsea clash MUFC
With Erik ten Hag confirming the five-time Ballon d’Or winner also refused to come on as a substitute in that game, theRonaldo’s absence was the talk of the town before the match with the 37-year-old sharing an Instagram story saying: “Let’s go, Manchester United”.
The Portugal captain has faced plenty of criticism over his stroppy behaviour this season, with pundits branding him a ‘disgrace’ and a ‘spoiled brat’. However, Old Trafford legend Keane defended Ronaldo, insisting he ‘would be more worried’ if the football great was ‘laughing and joking on the bench’.Speaking on Sky Sports before Saturday;s match, Keane said: “I try and see it from the player’s point of view, and he’s obviously had enough, he’s lost his head and I think that’s been brewing over the last few weeks with Ronaldo.
“He’s walked down the tunnel… I think players have done a lot worse things at Manchester United, it happens, it’s human nature.“Everybody was saying after they beat Spurs and that it was a big win, the best performance in years – absolute rubbish, Spurs were terrible. “Manchester United managed to beat Spurs last year at home as well, and Ronaldo got a hat-trick, so he’s more than capable of getting on that pitch and making a difference.“I still think Ronaldo’s behaviour over the last week… I’d be more worried if Ronaldo was sitting on the bench every week laughing his head off and not caring.
