She noticed some of the spelling was wrong in the text messages, a court heard today
A handyman accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend with an axe and burying her in Gisburn Forest reported her missing to police himself after sending messages from her phone, a court has heard.
On the second day of the trial, a jury was shown CCTV footage which showed Katie and Burfield travel from his home in Todmorden Road, Padiham, towards Gisburn Forest. Her phone connected to mobile phone masts along the journey, while Burfield's remained in contact with the mast which supplied signal to his home address.But when the van made the return journey, after an hour in the forest, Katie was no longer inside.
Katie was reported missing, but at 6.26am the following morning, Jenny messaged Burfield, saying: “Andy I think you know a hell of a lot more than you are letting on!! I have read over the msgs “katie” sent to her kids and she doesn’t even spell like that or speak like that which is what the kids have also said!
