Senior members of the Royal Family, including the King, the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Edinburgh, have been handed new honorary military roles in major shake-up
Buckingham Palace has announced that several senior members of the Royal Family will be taking on new military roles.
The new appointments are the latest in a number of additions by the King as he previously moved to make Queen Camilla the Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, the Prince of Wales became the Colonel of the Welsh Guards and the Princess of Wales took over from her husband as the new Colonel of the Irish Guards.
However, Queen Camilla can now add another military association to her name as she has become the new Patron of The Royal Army Chaplains’ Department. The Princess of Wales Much like other senior royals, the Princess of Wales has many military affiliations, including her role as the new Colonel of the Irish Guards which was previously held by Prince William.
Prince Edward is also Royal Colonel of 2nd Battalion The Rifles and the Colonel-in-Chief of The London Guards - where he recently made his Trooping the Colour debut on horseback with his two eldest siblings and nephew, Prince William. The popular royal has now also become the Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Irish Regiment and the Royal Colonel, The Queen’s Own Yeomanry.
